Candice Monroe’s Journey to 20

Candice Monroe is a leader, volunteer, and passionate advocate for organ donation. She is also a heart recipient approaching an amazing milestone – her 20th transplant anniversary! When she received the gift of life at just 15 years old, she was told the average lifespan of a transplanted heart was 10 years.

Thanks to the selfless gift of organ donation, Candice’s life was saved. Her organ donor was named Alicia, and Candice remains close to Alicia’s father, whom she lovingly refers to as her “donor dad,” Chuck. Even with this chance at renewed life, it was not without support, dedication and tenacity that Candice remains with us for this big milestone.

Candice doesn’t think she’d be where she is almost 20 years later without her family (including Donor Dad, Chuck) and the amazing advances in science, but also the community Transplant House provides and the education and services of Lifebanc, which has spent the last 35 years helping people just like her.

Candice has decided to celebrate her Journey to 20 with a fundraiser, with 100% of the funds raised to be split equally between Transplant House of Cleveland and Lifebanc. If her story or this work has impacted or influenced you in some way, please give what you can now through until February 27th.
