Andrea Schlegel is a transplant surgeon at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, where she directs the abdominal transplant research program. Trained in Germany and Switzerland, she went on to specialize in organ transplantation and HPB surgery in the United Kingdom and Japan. Her passion for surgery — and especially for the liver and mitochondrial metabolisms— drives her ongoing collaborations with colleagues worldwide, advancing preservation techniques to make more organs available for transplantation.

Andrea feels deeply honored to be part of the exceptional transplant team at Cleveland Clinic and is grateful for the dedication of colleagues, patients, families, and everyone in this theatre tonight — all working together to make the gift of transplantation possible.

Outside the operating room and research lab, Andrea finds balance in the outdoors and nature, where she loves to hike and run. Tonight, she embraces a very different kind of challenge — the dance floor — in support of the Transplant House of Cleveland and the community it so compassionately serves.
