Volunteers Keep the Home-Cooked Meals Coming

A recent guest at Transplant House expressed thanks for the wonderful “surprises” during her stay.  Among those, she said, were the shared meals.  She is right- there are many “surprises” in that homey gift:  Who will the volunteers be?  What will they bring?  Who will come to share this meal with me?  Each dinner is unique and yet each evening is filled with genuine care and conversations that vary from serious to sublime to silly, sometimes all in one meal.  We are always glad we came.

In recent weeks, we’ve been thankful for these dinner hosts/hostesses:

  • Brian Vitale, liver recipient, who brought in food from Mia Bella in Little Italy, including chicken parmesan, eggplant parmesan, pasta, and salad.
  • Lynn Lalley Wagers, Lifebanc Transplant Coordinator, and Paige Schertzinger, who brought homemade meatballs, veggie-filled pasta salad, and a fresh and colorful garden salad…and smiley-face cupcakes!
  • Margo Walker, donor and “interior designer” of Apartment 9, who brought lasagna casserole filled with vegetables, a fresh garden salad, rolls, and blonde brownies

Thank you to these and other volunteers.  We remember your visits fondly.
