Transplant House of Cleveland Has Been Busy!

Transplant House of Cleveland has been busy in 2013, making friends, building partnerships and achieving our goals.  Here is a summary of this year’s activities:

In March we welcomed new board member, Bill Mulligan.  BIll is a Trustee of the Cleveland Clinic and also Managing Director of Primus Capital.  His awareness of the need for housing for organ transplant patients and their families began in 2012 when he offered his own home to a couple and their four-year-old child while the mother awaited a liver transplant.  During their 7 month stay, Bill was witness to the incredible financial and emotional stress that accompained a wait for the life-saving procedure, and he became determined that providing for families in these situation was something that has to be witnessed.

Good new update, they are all back home and mom is doing great!

May brought a Founders Cocktail Party, held at The Canopy Restaurant, and nearly $40,000 was contributed by doctors from the Cleveland Clinic and University  Hospitals.  Special thanks to Dr. John Fung, Dr. Charles Miller, Dr. Nizar Zein, Dr. Kareem Abu-Elmagd, Dr. John Schulak, and Dr. Donald Hricik!  Stay tuned for the announcement of our Founders Circle recognition.

We extend our sincere thanks to Carol Ann & Ernie Fisco and to Carol & Chuck Giomuso, for opening their beautiful homes during the month of July to host our board and allowing us to present our mission to their friends.  The two gatherings resulted in more than $5,000 in charitable gifts and some very special connections as well.

In October, Transplant House of Cleveland welcomed new member, Marty McGreevy. Marty received a liver transplant in 2005 and learned first-hand the stresses faced by families in this situation. Marty and his family relocated from California to Cleveland for the wait for an organ to become available. Marty is Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for DDR in Cleveland.

Also in October, Lois & Larry Corman hosted a cocktail party in their home to raise funds for Transplant House of Cleveland!  More than $6,100 was contributed by the Corman’s friends and we are grateful for this genuine generosity and the way those guests are spreading the word to their friends and colleagues.  A very special thank you to the Cormans!

In November, Transplant House of Cleveland engaged the services of independent contractor, Trisha Brown, who is spending the next several months evaluating potential facilities where we can make a beginning.  We are looking for a site that can be renovated to provide 8-10 bedrooms (or more) and all the other conveniences of home, with a mile radius of University Circle.  To contact Trisha email at transplanthouseofcle@gmail.com.

In December, Transplant House of Cleveland mailed the year-end giving campaign to those on our mailing list.   If you would like to make a contribution, simply click the yellow DONATE button on the homepage.

The Board of Trustees would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support, donations and dedication to making Transplant House of Cleveland a reality in the coming year!
